Stand and Deliver
By Janet Shaw
Darlington Theatre Players are delighted to present, for the third season of 2009 (17 July to 8 August), Stand and Deliver, an English adult comedy written by Janet Shaw and directed by award- winning Jean-Marie Pasquier. This extremely funny play takes a behind the scenes look into the world of maternity wards, moving and surprising us with some very poignant moments.
Join sex-mad nurse Lindsay Walker, the extremely efficient Sister Mitchell and four very pregnant ladies from diverse backgrounds: the young first-time mother-to-be Nicola who is hoping everything goes by the books she is reading; Lizzie, who is already Mum to five children; Michelle, the teenager who has not planned her situation; and Vivien, the social climber who finds it all a nuisance. Then we have Dot and Brenda, the domestics, who provide words of comfort and barbed wit. Add the members of their families and a randy Doctor and you have an ensemble of characters which will leave you in stitches. Adult humour at its sauciest!
Jean-Marie has assembled a wonderful cast: several exciting new talents appearing at Marloo and the odd familiar face – two of them very odd!
