Tutankhamun
Darlington Theatre's first production for 2009 will be a two-act musical play entitled Tutankhamun, written specifically for the Senior Youth Theatre by LaVerne Kirton.
Since Howard Carter discovered the lost tomb of the Boy King, Tutankhamun, the modern world has been fascinated by the idea of such a rich and potentially powerful King. Egyptology has been a favourite subject for many people and the mysteries surrounding the young Pharaoh's life and death has been the subject of many documentaries.
Although poetic licence has been taken, LaVerne has used some of the known facts and included a number of key historical figures that surrounded the young Pharaoh at the time of his death. With a “whodunnit” scenario there were a number of people close to the throne that would have benefited by the death of the Boy King. Was it an accident or something more sinister?
Musical Director Bill Higgins and Choreographer Susan Jane join the Director in presenting this new and exciting musical play.
With an assortment of gods and a full supporting cast the play brings a spectacular glimpse of Ancient Egypt to the Marloo stage.
